ABOUT US

MOUNT MORIAH MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH

Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church was founded in September 1960 under the leadership of the late Pastor Anthony Benson, Sr. With a congregation of a faithful few, services were held in his home until relocating to their first church building at the corner of Genesee Street and Mortimer Street, Buffalo, New York 14204.    During Pastor Benson’s tenure, the Lord blessed the church to grow in faith and in members.  Sister Villa M. Jones was the first member to join and in December 2014 her faithfulness was rewarded when she was set aside as a Church Mother, and she remains a dedicated and laboring member of this congregation.  The Lord blessed Pastor Benson to raise 11 Ministers (sons) in the Gospel and 3 Pastors: the late Pastor Carl Hayes, the late Pastor Jessie Jones and the late Pastor Lawrence Williams.

After fire destroyed our church home it was time to search for another building. Pastor Benson followed God and we followed him to 363 East North Street Buffalo, New York 14204, where we continued to grow and praise God.

Pastor Anthony Benson, Sr. was a faithful, dedicated and beloved leader until his health began to fail and he was no longer able to lead this flock.  He respectfully and honorably stepped down from the pulpit in November 1985.

Waiting on the Lord to answer our prayers we have been sent several powerful Men of God:

November 1985- 1989: Rev. Lawrence Williams

January 1990- February 1992: Rev. Robert E. Baines, Jr.

Then on June 21, 1992 the church saw fit to call Rev. Cornelius Neal Delaney to serve as the next Pastor of this body of believers.  Under his leadership 2 Deacons and 78 new members joined the church.  Outgrowing our building at 363 East North Street God blessed us to march to our new building located at 400 Northampton Street, Buffalo New York 14208 on August 13, 1994, where we currently continue to worship God.

Pastor Delaney served for six years until he resigned.

In 2000, Rev. James Lyons was called to be our Interim Pastor and keeping the faith to move forward, the church was able to burn the mortgage on April 30, 2000.

May 2000- 2004: Rev. Lewis Paige served as our Pastor

May 2004- 2008: Rev. Caleb Bell was the Under Shepherd of this house until he resigned.

Then once again we were without an Under Shepherd, but we prayed and prayed, and the Lord heard our cry in April 2008 by sending back to us Pastor Cornelius Neal Delaney.  Under his leadership, more souls were saved and the church continued to grow.  He was a faithful and dedicated Man of God to this congregation until he went home to be with his Heavenly Father on December 12, 2011.  We loved Pastor Delaney but God loved him more.

September 2012- February 2014: Rev. Frank Washington, Jr. was called to be our Pastor until he resigned.

During the interim period of praying and seeking God’s guidance, we were blessed to have Rev. Jerry Thomas hold us together by continuing to preach and teach the Word of God.

Finally, on October 12, 2014 God showed us the vision and sent us a man after His own heart in the form of Rev. Jeffrey C. Chambless to be our Pastor.  Rev. Chambless is a fiery and powerful preacher and a scriptural teacher who believes in a church that serves its community and helps to educate its youth.  In his first year, the Lord blessed us with 68 new members, including 23 candidates for baptism.  Pastor Chambless truly believes that God will restore your soul.

To God Be the Glory for the Great things He has Done, is Doing and will Do!!!
